335 and 353 Herkimer Street, Brooklyn

These two examples of our subject material, in quite different palettes, are only a few doors apart on Herkimer Street, but it was only while confirming their addresses on Google’s Street View that I realized a third property either exists, or had existed, two doors to the left of 353. Is 349 Herkimer, as depicted by Google, below, immediately behind the two pedestrians, a phantom property? Could I possibly have photographed 335 and 353 without noticing its existence? It is on a particularly wide lot, with a side yard, suggesting that the building’s footprint has not maximized its allowable square footage, making it a prime target for demolishment and reconstruction. Perhaps this has already happened. I hope to return soon to this block to see what I might have missed.
